Job Description

Overview of the Role

The Deputy Campaign Director will play a central role in supporting and strengthening the organisation’s work across research, advocacy, communications and, critically, fundraising and organisational sustainability.

Working closely with the Campaign Director, the postholder will help drive the organisation forward at a strategic and operational level. A key priority of this role is to support and expand the organisation’s fundraising income through grant applications, donor engagement, and the development of new funding opportunities.

Main Responsibilities

The Deputy Campaign Director will:

• * Monitor political and human rights developments in Sri Lanka and contribute to the organisation’s strategic analysis.
• * Conduct high quality desk research and produce clear, well evidenced research outputs on human rights issues.
• * Support the Communications Coordinator to manage, source and produce content for the Sri Lanka Campaign’s website and social media channels, including Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn.
• * Support the development and delivery of public campaigns and face to face advocacy, particularly in relation to the UN Human Rights Council and key member states.
• * Design clear and engaging visuals to communicate data and research findings effectively.
• * Build and maintain constructive relationships with human rights defenders, international partners, volunteers and supporters.

Fundraising and Organisational Sustainability

A core and growing part of this role will be fundraising and income development. The Deputy Campaign Director will:

• * Work closely with the Campaign Director to develop and implement the organisation’s fundraising strategy.
• * Research and identify new funding opportunities from trusts, foundations and institutional donors.
• * Lead and support the drafting of high quality grant applications and donor reports.
• * Support the planning and delivery of fundraising appeals and donor engagement activities.
• * Assist with basic financial monitoring related to funded projects and grants.
• * Deputise for the Campaign Director when required and support general organisational administration as needed.

Person Specification

Essential

• * Strong commitment to human rights and to a multi ethnic and non partisan approach to peacebuilding in Sri Lanka.
• * Demonstrable experience in fundraising, grant writing or income generation for a charity, campaign or non profit organisation.
• * Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines with limited supervision.
• * Proven experience of carrying out independent research with high accuracy and attention to detail.
• * Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex issues clearly to non specialist audiences.
• * Experience of campaigning, research, and or advocacy with decision makers.
• * Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
• * Knowledge of human rights and transitional justice concepts.

Desirable

• * Understanding of Sri Lanka’s recent history, politics and current human rights context.
• * Experience of speaking publicly or presenting to diverse audiences.
• * Relevant academic qualification in international law, human rights, peacebuilding or conflict studies.
• * Experience managing social media in a campaigning context and updating websites.
• * Experience securing significant grant funding from trusts or institutional donors.
