Sri Lanka is facing one of its worst humanitarian crises in recent memory. Cyclone Ditwah has unleashed catastrophic floods and landslides that, as of early December, have caused more than 600 deaths and damaged tens of thousands of homes. Thousands of people have been displaced into crowded temporary shelters, many set up in school buildings, where families are struggling without adequate space, privacy or basic essentials. Beyond the destruction of homes, vital infrastructure such as roads, bridges and farmland has been swept away, cutting off communities, disrupting supply routes and threatening water and food security.

In this critical moment, organisations including the IFRC, Serendip Children’s Home and Jaffna Rainbow Relief, together with other humanitarian partners on the ground, are working urgently to assist affected families. They are providing dry food, safe drinking water, hygiene kits, clothing, bedding and essential medicines, offering vital relief to people who have lost almost everything.
