The Sri Lanka Campaign has joined with People for Equality and Relief in Lanka (PEARL) and 15 other organizations in writing to Singapore’s Attorney-General’s Chambers, requesting that former Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa be investigated and, if appropriate, prosecuted for his alleged role in serious international crimes.
Following mass protests in Sri Lanka over the past few months, Rajapaksa had fled the country to Singapore, via the Maldives, and has resigned the Presidency. In doing so, he has forfeited his immunity as an international head of state, and can now be held accountable.
The press release from PEARL is available here, and the full letter can be read here.
